PURPOSE:To provide the herbicide comprising a specific oxazolone derivative and 1-(alpha,alpha-dimethylbenzyl)-3-para-tolylurea, capable of perfectly controlling all weeds by its once application, safe for paddy rice, extremely low in toxicity against men and livestock, and used for paddy fields. CONSTITUTION:The herbicide composition for paddy fields contains both an oxazolone derivative of formula I (R is 3-4C alkynyl, tetrahydropyran-3-yl or tetrahydrofuran-3-yl which may be substituted with one or two methyl groups) (e.g. the compound wherein R is -CH2CidenticalCH) and 1-(alpha,alpha-dimethylbenzyl)-3-para- tolylurea, has an excellent herbicidal activity, and is reduced in the generation of chemical injuries on crops, men and livestock. The composition is effective for gramineous weeds, cyperaceous weeds, general broad-leaved weeds and perennial weeds such as Scirpus, Cyperus serotinus and Sagittaria, and exhibits an synergistic effect. The herbicide does not give a chemical damage to paddy rice, and exhibits a chemical damage-reducing effect under conditions liable to give the chemical damages. The herbicide exhibits the effect by the treatment of soil before or after the germination of the weeds. The compound of formula I is obtained in accordance to the reaction equation. |
