PURPOSE:To provide the fingerprint pattern classifying device capable of stable and accurate fingerprint classification by using forms of rising lines and inclinations of rising line directions. CONSTITUTION:Picture data of fingerprint is inputted from a picture storage part 13 to a classification processing part 18 and is divided into zones like lattices, and an average value of rising line directions in each zone is calculated and is expressed with one of eight directions indicated by O to 7. The core of fingerprint is detected in accordance with the rising line direction in each zone, and a prescribed frame is provided based on the core, and the inclination of the rising line direction in this frame is calculated. It is detected whether the rising line direction is bent in a prescribed range or not based on the core to discriminate the form of rising lines. One of plural preliminarily determined fingerprint pattern types to which the fingerprint pattern belongs is determined in accordance with the calculated inclination of the rising line direction and the form of rising lines. Thus, fingerprint patterns are stably classified without an influence of injuries or wrinkles. |
