PURPOSE:To improve discrimination accuracy, and to detect the line of sight with high accuracy by detecting whether a ghost is generated in an eyeball image or not, and discriminating whether spectacles are used are not by the presence or absent of the ghost and an eyeball distance of an observer to a sight line detecting device. CONSTITUTION:When the eyeball 15 is illuminated by an infrared emitting diode (IRED) for naked eyes, it is referred to a flag for showing whether a ghost is generated or not. When the eyeball 15 is illuminated by the IRED 13 for naked eyes, when the flag is set so as to show that the ghost is generated, a threshold Szeth of the eyeball distance Sze being a criterion for setting to illumination for naked eyes or illumination for spectacles is set to a prescribed value. Also, when the ghost is generated in the latest sight line detecting operation and in that case, illumination is executed by the IRED 13 for naked eyes, a sight line detecting circuit sets a flag for showing a fact that the ghost is generated at the time when the eyeball 15 is illuminated by the IRED 13 for naked eyes, changes it to setting of the IRED 13 for spectacles, and detects the line of sight again. |
