PURPOSE:To provide magnetic metal powder, which is used as magnetic powder for high-density magnetic recording medium, has a high coercive force, has a sharp coercive force distribution, has a small X-ray particle diameter, is superior in dispersion properties and a packing property and is superior also in oxidative stability besides. CONSTITUTION:Magnetic metal powder contains a rare-earth element, an alkali earth element and Al and/or Si in the vicinities of the surfaces of its particles, has a mean major axis diameter of 0.05 to 0.3mum, has a coercive force of 1600 to 2000Oe, has a saturation magnetization quantity of 100 to 150emu/g, has a specific surface area of 45 to 70m<2>/g and has an X-ray particle diameter of 120 to 170Angstrom . |
