PURPOSE:To provide the optical fiber which does not generate a failure in an incident end even if a high-output laser beam is made incident thereon. CONSTITUTION:This optical fiber is constructed by heating the incident end of the optical fiber of a Ge-doped quartz system for laser beam transmission to diffuse the Ge in the core and to make only the incident end of the fiber lower in the specific refractive index distribution between the core and the clad than in the other parts of the fiber. As a result, the laser beam of the high output does not concentrate at one point of the core even if this laser beam is made incident on the fiber and, therefore, the failure at the incident end of the fiber is suppressed. |
