PURPOSE:To identify the ground surface cover material of a land area from satellite image data by using the reflection characteristic of the ground surface cover material. CONSTITUTION:A multidimensional dictionary creating device 13 reproduces the process of generating a satellite image from photographing conditions under which the satellite image of an area where the cover material of the ground surface is previously known is taken and from satellite image data, and extracts sunlight components reflected at the ground surface of that area to calculate the reflection characteristic of the ground surface, thereby creating a multidimensional dictionary 14 showing the relationship between the wavelength of light forming the satellite image and the ground surface cover material of the area. A ground surface cover material identification device 15 reproduces, the process of generating the satellite image during photographing, from the photographing conditions for the satellite image and the satellite image data both of which are sampled into an electronic calculator from an external input device 12b at each of objects for analysis which are roughly divided using the satellite image data, and refers to the multidimensional dictionary 14 to identify the ground surface cover material of the area from the reflection characteristic of the ground surface of the area obtained by extraction of the sunlight components reflected at the ground surface and from the wavelength of the light forming the satellite image. |
