PURPOSE:To shorten the access time by generating a position storage table which contains storage positions in line units and finding the storage position of the head character of a line to be referred to from the position storage table. CONSTITUTION:When a document file 1 is stored in a memory, the head position 4 of the 1st line is stored in the 1st-line storage position 10 of the position storage table 2 and the head position 5 of the 2nd line is stored in the 2nd-line storage position 11 of the table 2. in order from the head of the document file 1. Similarly, the head position 6 of the 10th line is stored in the 10th-line position 12 of the table 2, the head position 7 of the 20th line is stored in the 20th-line position 13 of the table 2, and the head position 8 of the 21th line is stored in the 21th-line position 14 of the table 2. When a character in, for example, the 21th line are referred to, the 21-th line storage position 14 of the position storage table 2 is referred to and the head position 8 of the 21th line of the document file 1 is found. Then the object character is searched for from this position 8. |
