PURPOSE:To form a cylindrical plate blank material for gravure printing and rotary screen printing in such a manner as to obscure joints as far as possible without requiring laborious labor. CONSTITUTION:The image data of respective picture elements and the image data of an image data apart by the repeating period of endless patterns to be formed from these picture elements are compared and are classified to the approximate parts where both image data are approximate within the prescribed reference value and level difference parts where the image data are not approximate within the value in the respective main scanning lines of original image (step S5). Segmenting lines passing the approximate parts and crossing the original image in the sub-scanning direction thereof are set in such a manner that the pass length of the level difference parts is as short as possible (step S6). Unit patterns are formed and these unit patterns are connected so that the transfer width of the junctures at the time of forming the endless patterns is made relatively small in the approximate parts and relatively large in the level difference parts.
