摘要 The gear (16) is driven by the engine and gearbox and turns the housing (3) in bearings (7). The internally splined collar (17) slides on the wheel (19) to lock or unlock the direct drive from the housing (3) to the shaft (1). The sleeve (20) in two halves (21,22) is splined to the shaft (2) and has bores (20b) which are a tight fit on the shafts (10,10') which pass through the housing (3). The sleeve (20) can float slightly end-ways in the housing (3). The sleeve (24) is splined to the shaft (1), and a ring (26) of low-friction metal is fitted between the flange on the sleeve and the housing (20). ADVANTAGE - Four-wheel drive is not lost if one wheel loses traction when driving in the ''unlocked'' mode in normal highway travel. Existing units can be modified easily and cheaply.
