Method for manufacturing bags of flexible material, in particular of plastic material, characterised in that, in order to move the two edges of the opening orifice of the bag apart from each other, and consequently to open the extendable gussets of the bag, a depression is formed on the two outer faces of each edge of the orifice with the aid of two depression-forming members (50, 51) extending parallel to the said edges and initially spaced apart from each other by a small distance greater than the thickness so as to cause the edges to be displaced until they are applied against the depression-forming members.
