A mixer for gases or liquids has two or more mirror image centrifugal chambers (4,5) each with an inlet (2,3). A further mixing chamber (8) is arranged between the centrifugal chambers (4,5), and translating into an outlet chamber (9). The novelty is that: (a) the centrifugal chambers (4,5) are internally free of any structure; (b) that at least one inlet passage (2,3) enters the centrifugal chamber (4,5) at a tangent, such that an inflowing fluid forms a sub-critical vortex and (c) that vortices within the mirror image centrifugal chambers (4,5) are contra-rotating as they meet in the mixing chamber (8). The central axes (6,7) of the mirror image centrifugal chambers (4,5) intersect each other at an angle between 0 and 30 degrees. ADVANTAGE - The mixer achieves maximum mixing effect without an additional rifled mixing unit.
