The uppermost layer (1) of the mattress is mfd. of fabric, sheep's wool or plastic and covers a sheet of rubber, felt or foam or an insulating sheet (2), a similar sheet (3) incorporating a field coil system (5-8), and an underlayer (4) similar to the uppermost layer. A central set of coils (5) for producing a strong magnetic field is surrounded by a weak-field outer winding (6). Separate connections (7,8) are provided to the two windings from an excitation current generator. USE/ADVANTAGE - For long-term therapy using progressively less concentration of magnetic fields. Intense field can be superseded by weaker field from outer winding for longer periods (e.g. overnight).
