Thin, flat components are made of synthetic material by injecting it in a viscous state into a hollow mould and moving the upper part (36) of the mould towards the lower part (20) to reduce the volume and form the final mould space. The material is injected at a side entry (76) into a wedge shaped space (86) which is eliminated as the mould is fully closed and the final mould space is formed. USE/ADVANTAGE - For accurate injection moulding of thin, flat components, esp. Fresnel lenses. By using a wedge shaped space and hinging the mould lid, less force is required to close the mould than with a parallel lid motion.
