An electrically controlled vibration absorber for use on road vehicle systems has a cylinder (4) with a piston (11) and a coupled piston rod (12). Built into the piston body is a solenoid valve (40) that is operated to control the flow of hydraulic fluid through a channel (38) and in doing so varies the damping action. The electrical connections (41) to the valve are brought through the piston rod and a contact bush (55). The contact bush has spring-loaded contact pins (64) that engage contact rings (70). The connecting wires (78) are brought out through the piston rod. USE/ADVANTAGE - Allows number of connections to be made through piston rod.
