Class 39(4) In the nuclear reactor a having vertical fuel elements b, the control rods c are pivotted at points d above the core, inside the shield, and may be moved downwards between the fuel elements by turning about the pivots. Each control rod is held at its lowest position by a stop so that the rods are spread out fan-wise in the vertical plane. The rods may be moved by gravity or by a mechanical linkage and may be elliptical in shape. |
