A composition used for making a static-free working surface on a textile fibre working unit comprises (1) a resin selected from polyvinyl chloride, a copolymer of 95 per cent vinyl chloride and 5 per cent vinyl acetate, and mixtures thereof; and (2) 0.5 to 40 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the resin of a polyoxyalkylene of molecular weight from 100 to 20,000, and which is terminated with at least one hydroxyl group. The composition may also include a stabilizer and/or plasticizer for the resin and also a filler and/or pigment. The polyoxyalkylene compound may be selected from the following classes: polyethylene glycol polyether, polyethylene glycol polyether monoesters terminated with a fatty acid, polyethylene glycol polyether monoether terminated with an ether of a monohydroxy alcohol, polyethylene glycol polyether monothioether terminated with a thioether of a mercaptan, a polyethylene glycol-polypropylene glycol reaction product, polyethylene glycol polyethers terminated at one end with a chlorine atom or methyl group, or mixtures. Specified polyoxyalkylene compounds are the oleic, lauric and stearic acid monoesters of polyethylene glycol of M.W. 400 to 1000, polyethylene glycol polyether terminated with hydroxyl groups and of M.W. 4000, methoxy terminated polyethylene glycol polyester of M.W. 350, and polyoxyalkylene derivatives of hexatol anhydride long chain fatty acid esters. The plasticizer may be dibutyl or dioctyl phthalate, tricresyl phosphate, cresyl diphenyl phosphate, butyl benzyl phthalate, butyl phthalyl butyl glycollate, triethylene glycol dioctoate, dioctyl diester amide, or polyethylene glycol dioctoate. Specified fillers and pigments are calcium silicate, clay, whiting, carbon black, titanium dioxide, white lead, lead stearate and basic lead silicate. The compositions may be extruded into tubular sections which are used as textile roll covers and in the manufacture of aprons. |
