881,165. Fibre-board with mineral binders; laminates. KNAUF, N. W. Feb. 14, 1958 [Feb. 14, 1957], No. 4975/58. Classes 96 and 140. In the production of felted fibre-board for constructional use, and having mineral sulphatic binding-agents, the fibrous &c. material, e.g. cotton, peat, sisal, jute, wool, hair, leather waste, slag wool, nylon, waste paper, wood wool, wood chips, pieces of plastic or metal, and the binding-agent, e.g. sculptor's plaster or sulphate slag cement are supplied respectively at 4 and 2, e.g. with Kieselguhr when soundabsorbent slabs are being made, or, to improve chemical resistance, barium hydroxide, or clay may be included, and a jet of water is pumped in at 6<SP>1</SP>, the suspension thus formed being agitated at 29, and, with the aid of suction at 17, is felted as a web, e.g. on a permeable textile belt and contacts a stripping-off roller 9. Further suction is applied at 17<SP>1</SP>, and the web may be wound up and cut into boards on a make-up roll section 30, 31, the boards &c. being passed through presses 33, 38 which may be profiled. The boards &c. may be further cut at 40 and are stacked at 42 on a table 43 at the entrance of a drying chamber 46. If the boards are profiled or stacked with interposed bars, drying may be accelerated by passing heated air between them. A truck 47 may remove the stack when the table 43 is lowered. Water withdrawn from the web or board is passed back to a storage tank 7 or to a pump 6 for re-circulation. The belt 11 may be cleaned by a rotating beater-roll 25 and sprays 26, 27. Keratin &c. may be included in the fibrous suspension to retard setting of the plaster &c. The products have low thermal conductivity, and are sound-insulating and fire-resistant. They may be impregnated with dyestuffs and may be covered or inset with synthetic plastics, metal foils or veneers, which may cover the surface only partly or in patterns. A smooth surface may be obtained, e.g. by winding the board on tissue paper which may be subsequently discarded, or on synthetic resin foil. |
