PURPOSE:To provide a differential gear capable of making differential limiting force smaller at the backing time of a vehicle and at the engine brake using time than at the advance time of the vehicle. CONSTITUTION:A differential gear 7 has a differential case 21 rotatory-driven by the engine of a vehicle, pinion gears 53, 55 enclosed in storage holes 49, 51 provided at the differential case 21, and side gears 37, 39 meshed with the pinion gears 53, 55 so as to transmit the driving force of the engine to each wheel side. The differential gear 7 is provided with differential mechanism 63, in which each gear is a helical gear, and one or both of a differential limiting force reinforcing means for reinforcing differential limiting force at the advance time of the vehicle receiving thrust generated to the side gears 37, 39 due to the mesh with the pinion gears 53, 55, and a differential limiting force lowering means for lowering the differential limiting force at the backing time of the vehicle.
