PURPOSE:To provide the subject treatment method intended to deal with such problems that, in the distillation of a reaction product from phenol and acetone, the acetone is admixed with the bottoms during acetone distillation process for separating the acetone as an overhead product component or a large quantity of water is admixed with the circulating acetone. CONSTITUTION:The objective treatment is conducted in the following processes: (A) in the 1st distillation process, the above reaction product obtained by reaction between phenol and acetone in the presence of an acid catalyst is separated into (1) bottoms comprising unreacted phenol and bisphenol A and (2) an overhead product comprising unreacted phenol, unreacted acetone and water, and (B) in the 2nd distillation process, the above overhead product is separated into (3) bottoms comprising unreacted phenol and water and (4) an overhead product comprising acetone. In this case, the phenol content of the overhead product in the 1st distillation process is kept at <=40wt.%. |
