PURPOSE:To obtain an ink set for ink jet recording which can give both a high-grade black recording and a high-grade color recording by combining a black ink with color inks having specified properties. CONSTITUTION:An ink set comprising a black ink and color inks having a rate of penetration into a substrate different from that of the black ink. Examples of the color inks used include a yellow ink, a magenta ink, a cyan ink, red ink, green ink and a blue ink. The color ink contains a surfactant or 1-7 C aliphatic monoalcohol as a penetrant. To form a black image on a substrate with a plurality of color inks having rates of penetration into a substrate different from that of the black ink, at least one of a plurality of the above color inks is first applied to the substrate, and the black ink is then applied thereto. |
