The invention relates to the use of non-.beta.-oxidizable fatty acid analogues of the general formula: Alkyl-X-CH2COOR where the alkyl group is a saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon chain of at least 8 carbon atoms, where X represents an oxygen atom, a sulfur atom, a sulfoxide (SO) or sulfone (SO2) group and where R is a hydrogen atom or a short alkyl group, such as ethyl, for the manufacture of a medicament for the treatment of hypolipaemic conditions and for reducing the concentration of cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood of mammals.
