PURPOSE:To obtain a hydrogel excellent in flexiblity and durability by setting the ratio of the tensile break strength to tensile modulus of a copolymer obtained by mainly crosslinking a polymerizable hydrophilic monomer, N- methylolacrylamide and a crosslinking agent and the ratio of the tensile reaking extension to tensile modulus thereof to specific values. CONSTITUTION:The ratio of the tensile break strength to tensile modulus of a copolymer obtained by mainly polymerizing a polymerizable hydrophilic monomer, N-methylolacrylamide and a crosslinking agent is set to 2 or more and the ratio of the tensile breaking extension to tensile modulus thereof is set to 3 or more. This hydrogel is excellent in flexibility and durability and extremely reduced in unpleasant feeling and foreign matter feeling upon the contact with living tissue and a soft contact lens excellent in mounting feeling and handleability is obtained from this hydrogel. |
