A device is used for drilling the core and sepg. the two flanges of hot rolled steel beams in order to improve its inertia in the conventional X sense. The device comprises a prim drilling assembly consisting of four rollers on two transmission shafts, the surface of the rollers incorporating interposed dies and punches, and a sec element formed by a second train of rollers acting on each side of the two flanges of the beam in order to elongate the drilled part of the core. A third and fourth train of rollers with dies and punches may be incorporated for larger profiles. A final train of smooth rollers is provided to separate and dress the flanges of the beam. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used to drill the core and elongate the drilled part by separating the flanges of hot rolled beams to produce perforated, expanded or honeycomb sections. Improves the mechanical characteristics of metal beams used in industrial applications without increasing their wt. The device allows these beams to be produced in two operations without any welding. The beams are notably used in the fabrication of metal frameworks for building, industrial, maritime and petrochemical applications.
