PURPOSE: To provide an integrated optical device and the manufacturing method. CONSTITUTION: By utilizing the change of an effective complex refractive index generated by bringing a metal film very close to the core of an optical waveguide, many devices are formed. A structure constituted of a substrate 10, a lower side coating 14, the core 16 of the waveguide, a freely attachable and detachable upper side coating 18 for supporting the metal film 22 and an electrode 12 for bending the film and a method for forming it are provided. A switchable device provided with the structure includes a mode converter, a light switch, a Bragg device, a directional coupler and a channel type waveguide though not limited to them. |
