PURPOSE:To reduce picture noise and gradation difference or the like in existence in an original visually without losing sharpness (color tone and sharpness in the case of color picture) by taking a noise perception characteristic of a visual system into account. CONSTITUTION:The picture signal processing unit that converts a picture signal G inputted by a picture input device 1 into a picture signal G in matching with a picture output device 2 is provided with a noise generating means 3 generating a noise N having a spatial frequency characteristic hardly percepted visually and a quantity corresponding to a picture signal level and with a noise superimposing means 4 superimposing the noise N generated by the noise generating means 3 onto the picture signal. When a color picture signal is processed, the picture signal processing unit is provided with a noise superimposing means 5 superimposing the noise N generated by the noise generating means 3 onto the color picture signal G in the color spatial area hardly visually percepted. |
