<p>A bevel gear differential comprises a carrier (11) in which is mounted side gears (18 and 19) and a planet gear support (28) which carries only three planet gears (25, 26 and 27) on planet pins (30, 31 and 32). The ends of the planet pins are provided with flats (35, 36) and are received in grooves (37, 38, 39) in the carrier in such a way that the support may pivot about a point (34) to equalise the loads on the planet gears. The ends of the pins preferably have a part cylindrical surface. The planet gears are preferably spaced unequiangularly about the axis (24) about which the planet gears can planetate. A viscous coupling may be incorporated to give the differential a limited slip capability. <IMAGE></p> |
