<p>PURPOSE:To detect arrival of the edge of an inserted paper at a reader accurately without requiring any special detector by arranging an optically black member on the background at the reading position of a data reader. CONSTITUTION:A reader 11 comprising a CCD, for example, is disposed oppositely to a paper path 12 and an optically black background member 13 is arranged oppositely to the paper path 12. The background member 13 provides a background color when a paper 14 is not inserted. When the paper 14 is inserted and the edge thereof arrives at the reader 11, the reader 11 reads out color at the edge of the paper, e.g. white, which is different from optical black. A processor 15 detects the edge of the paper 14 accurately based on the difference of color between the edge of the paper 14 and optical black obtained from the reader 11.</p> |
