PURPOSE:To provide the plastic optical fiber consisting of the cured matter of organopolysiloxane which is used as core and is low in transmission loss and is not degraded in transparency even at a high temp. by changing the specific organopolysiloxane by the catalytic effect of a specific phosphorus compd. to a three-dimensional network structure of a high mol.wt., then curing the organopolysiloxane. CONSTITUTION:This optical fiber consists of the cured matter of the compsn. consisting essentially of the organopolysiloxane expressed by average unit formula R<1>aSiO(4-a)/2, the phosphorus compd. expressed by formula (R<2>)4POH and/or the cured matter of the compsn. consisting essentially of the organopolysiloxane contg. the phosphorus having the group expressed by formula identicalSi-O-P(R<2>)4. In formula, R1 denotes same or different 1 to 10C unsubstd. or substd. univalent hydrocarbon group or hydroxyl group, (a) denotes 1<=a<=1.8 positive number. R<2> in (R<2>)4POH denotes a substd. or unsubstd. univalent hydrocarbon group. R<2> in identicalSi-O-(R<2>)4 denotes a substd. or unsubstd. univalent hydrocarbon group. As a result, the optically and chemically stable core is obtd. |
