PURPOSE:To detect the length of the parking space between the vehicles parking in the longitudinal line by using the object distance sensors regardless of their wide direction angle. CONSTITUTION:By providing ultrasonic distance sensors 2 and 3 by facing laterally to the front end and the rear end of a vehicle, so as to make the centers aC and bC of their direction angles A and B in opening out directions each other, and thereby, the inner edges aR and bF of the direction angles of the ultrasonic distance sensors are made square to the front and the rear axis Y of the vehicle. As a result, the output of the ultrasonic distance sensors 2 is changed suddenly just beside the rear end of the parking vehicle 10, while the output of the sensor 3 is changed suddenly just beside the rear end of the parking vehicle 11. Thereby, by detecting the end of the parking space by using the sudden change points, the length of the parking space can be found accurately. |
