<p>PURPOSE:To prevent early clogging of a particulate filter by stopping the emission of exhaust gas into the atmosphere during regeneration of the particulate filter, and to improve the fuel consumption of the engine by reducing a burden to a power source on an engine as far as possible. CONSTITUTION:Exhaust branch passages 1a from an exhaust passage 1 of an engine E, are connected respectively with divided exhaust gas purifying chambers 2a, 2b in series. Heaters 8a, 8b and particulate filters 5a, 5b are incorporated in the divided exhaust gas purifying chambers 5a, 5b, respectively. Each of the exhaust branch passages 1a is selectively opened and closed by means of a passage shut-off valve 13. The heaters 8a, 8b incorporated in the purifying chambers 2a, 2b can be connected to power sources A, B in association with the opening and closing operation of the passage shut-off valve 13 through the intermediary of a power source connecting circuit 15.</p> |
