PURPOSE:To provide a braking device which promptly determines the braking mode of an auxiliary brake in accordance with the braking operation speed of a main brake and performs correct auxiliary braking from the beginning. CONSTITUTION:A brake pedal operating speed is detected (S4), and if it is within a preset range (S8) shiftdown is usually performed from the fourth gear position to the third gear position (S9), but if it is faster than a preset value (S11) shiftdown is performed at once from the fourth gear position to the second gear position (S13). As an auxiliary braking mode can be determined on the way of braking operation, auxiliary braking delay during sudden braking is avoided to utilize auxiliary braking from the beginning of braking and poor comfortableness is avoided by the shiftdown after operating a main brake. |
