METHOD FOR CONTINUOUS PRODUCTION OF FUNCTIONAL POLYCARBONATE SHEET

PURPOSE:To contrive the improvement of adhesion, surface hardness and weatherability by providing a laminating process wherein one surface hardened layer constituted of an ultraviolet hardenable coating material for use as an outer layer of a polycarbonate sheet and the other of an acrylic resin layer thermally fusible to polycarbonate resin for use as an inner layer are attached to each side under heat. CONSTITUTION:A polycarbonate sheet P is extruded from an extruding machine 1, rolled between rollers 2 and run between the laminate rolls 4 having a rubber hardness of 65-85. During the period of rolling by the laminate rolls 4, a functional film F having at least two layers one of which is a surface headening layer constituted of an ultraviolet hardenable coating material and the other of which is an acrylic resin layer thermally fusible to polycarbonate resin is attached under heat to each side of polycarbonate sheet P in a manner wherein, upon laminating operation, the surface hardening layer constitutes an outer layer of the polycarbonate sheet and the acrylic resin layer constitutes an inner layer thereof. To accomplish this, the surface hardening layer of the functional film F has a thickness of 1-50mum and the acrylic resin layer thereof has a thickness of 20-100mum.
