PURPOSE:To enhance the reliability of blank suction without bringing about an increase in cost by providing a blank suction means bringing the interior of a cap to an atmosphere communication state at a plurality of the relative positions of the cap and a head. CONSTITUTION:Printing inferiority is generated by the contamination in an apparatus due to the scattering of ink generated when ink sucking operation is completed in such a state that a cap 15 is filled with ink or the adhesion of the ink to an emitting orifice surface 21 because of capping after wiping. Considering the dimension of the cap, the attaching accuracy of a recording head and the irregularity of the stop position of a carriage 2, the carriage 2 is further finely moved in a right direction so as to form a gap between the cap 15 and the emitting orifice surface in any case. After the movement of the carriage 2, a pump 16 is operated in such a state that the gap 32 is generated to perform blank suction and the ink in the cap is sucked through a tube 27. By this constitution, the ink in the cap can be certainly removed in any case. |
