PURPOSE:To provide a high pressure electric discharge lamp lighting device in simple constitution at low manufacturing cost without using an inverter circuit. CONSTITUTION:A poloarity switching circuit 8 detects turning on and off of a lighting switch 2, and reverses an unillustrated relay energizing condition, and drives switches 9a and 9b being relay contact points, and switches output polarity of a DC pressure increasing circuit 3 alternately to/from each other in synchronism with lighting and lights out, and supplies it to a high pressure electric discharge lamp 6. In this way, since the output polarity to the high pressure electric discharge lamp 6 is switched, even if an inverter circuit is not used, an electrode of the high pressure electric discharge lamp 6 is not degraded. |
