In a new method for separating liquids from solid materials using a low pressure press and a high pressure press, the novel feature is that the low pressure press (2) and the high pressure press (1) are arranged so that the high pressure end of the low pressure press is immediately adjacent to the inlet opening of the high pressure press, and the pressure produced in the low pressure press has an effected also in the high pressure press. Also claimed is an apparatus for carrying out the proposed method, consisting of a screw press (2) whose outlet leads into the inlet of a roller drum press (1) or a two-roller press. USE/ADVANTAGE - In separating liquid and solid materials, such as e.g. in the de-watering of a fibrous solid material. The low and high pressure presses are combined in a way which reduces the cost of the apparatus, and an increased rate of de-watering is achieved. |
