PURPOSE:To enable a portable data processing device to be continuously used for a long time without applying a substantial modification to the device body by constituting the device of a lithium ion battery and a nickel hydroxide battery, and then controlling the charge and discharge of the lithium ion battery, depending upon a difference in the two batteries. CONSTITUTION:A data processing device body normally houses a battery equivalent to the standard battery pack of a nickel hydroxide battery, but the battery pack of a lithium ion battery can also be used, thereby realizing substantial the lightweight structure of the device as a whole. In other words, the same shape, mounting mechanism and connection terminal as in the case of the standard battery pack of the nickel hydroxide battery are incorporated in the lithium ion battery. Also, the inside of a pack enclosure having a discrimination terminal is provided with a lithium ion battery body and a charge and discharge circuit for controlling the charge and discharge of the lithium ion battery body, depending upon a difference between the two batteries. In addition, a discrimination means to identify the two packs is provided to enable the device body to discriminate the packs, and an operation power supply terminal for the charge and discharge circuit is thereby eliminated. |
