PURPOSE: To provide a semihard magnetic element, manufacture of which is comparatively easy and which is less expensive than that which is used at present by partially crystallizing most part of a material, so that all of the elements show semihard magnetic characteristics. CONSTITUTION: In a magnetic EAS device 1, the existence of an article 11 in a region of question 6 is detected by sensing a tag 2 fitted to he article 11. A signal-generating element 4 which is adjacent to the tag 2 activates and inactivates a semi-hard magnetic element 3. The semi-hard magnetic element 3 is formed by a noncrystal metalloid material, which is obtained by appropriately crystallizing most of it, namely, a part or the entire part of volume limited by the element and which is abundant in flexible iron. In particular, the flexible noncrystal line material, used for forming the element 3 containing the iron of at least 50 atom percents, is previously crystallized under a controlled condition and all the elements are magnetically set to be in semihard state. |
