FRP mouldings are bonded together to produce hollow articles - by wet=on=wet process using basically two dished parts which are vacuum preformed and then bonded together round rims by blow=up pressing.

An FRP moulding consists of at least two cured dished members bonded together to form a tube and/or container; they are bonded on one or both rims or on the peripheral rim of one, pressed and joined with a cured overlap. The material concerned is pref. reinforced with glass, carbon fibre or aramid fibre; the procedure pref. uses also the "blow-up" process. ADVANTAGE - The process enables one-piece tubular and/or container shapes to be produced, and FRP components to be bonded in one piece with dished or flat webs. It used "wet on wet" stages but avoids producing resin pools. The products enlarge the range of applications requiring specific stiffness/weight or strength/weight ratios i.e. they open up new hitherto unavailable applications. The process needs no autoclaves or ovens and allows prepregs etc. to be utilised.
