The magnetic valve has a movable valve element (6) displaced into a working position (52) from a rest position (50) against the force of a return spring (8), via an electromagnet (10) which has a magnetic force characteristic increasing from a min. value at the rest position exponentially. The return spring has a spring characteristic which increases in proportion to the magnetic force characteristic in the valve stroke direction. Pref.the spring force characteristic lies below a constant operating force for the valve element in an initial displacement range (S0 - S2) from the rest position.
