Injection-moulded temperature sensor construction - uses disc-shaped sensor element in plastic housing with elastomer cap

In the temp. sensor, connector contacts (1, 2) are soldered to a pill- or disc-shaped resistor element (3) which has a temp.-dependent resistance. Contacts are placed in an injection mould, where a housing (4, 5) is formed by injecting plastic material. In a separate injection moulding step, a cap (6) is formed using silicone or elastomer material with a thickened ring ( 6a). An O-ring may be used for sealing, and the cap is 0.2 to 2 mm thick. The ring (6a) grips in a groove (8), maintaining the cap (6) tension. ADVANTAGE - Simple manufacturing process for temperature sensors.
