Glass fibres are coated with a material contg. a high protection organic polymer and a cement protection component made of aluminium. Pref. the polymer is chosen from acrylate, polyurethane, epoxide resin or polyvinylacetate or their copolymer. The aluminium is present as a fine dispersion or as a continuous coating. ADVANTAGE - The protective and stable coating prevents alkali liquid in the concrete reacting the silicate glass fibres and causing corrosion which would lead to a loss in the mechanical strength of the concrete. The aluminium reacts with the hydroxyl ions to form aluminate.
