A plasticiser barrel for extruders etc. has an integral degassing device to degas hygroscopic materials being processed; it has a cylinder with centre screw moving radially and/or axially; the leading end of the cylinder has an injector nozzle connected to the sprue bore, whilst its other end has an inlet and filling zone. The degassing device is a part of the barrel in the filling zone where it allows moisture to escape and has an arrangement to lead the water vapour away. The part-section of an injection mould extruder shown has the screw (2) and the feed inlet (3) for material through the barrel (1). ADVANTAGE - The degassing arrangement has a simple construction. it is effective with minimal disturbance to operations.
