Compsns. for photo therapy of skin diseases - contain methoxy-psoralene as photosensitiser, and magnesium salt

Topical compsns. for treating skin diseases contain a photosensitiser (I) and 0.5-30 wt.% of a water-soluble Mg salt (II). (I) comprises 8-methoxypsoralene (Ia) and/or 6-methoxypsoralene (Ib). USE/ADVANTAGE - The compsns. are esp. useful for treating psoriasis by applying the compsn. to the affected skin and exposing the skin to UV-A radiation. (II) counteracts phototoxic side effects, e.g. erythema. In an example, twenty subjects were treated (a) on one skin area with 'Wogederm' (RTM: 25% MgCl2 cream) contg. 0.045% (Ia) and (b) on another skin area with a compsn. comprising the MgCl2-free cream base and 0.045% (Ia), and exposed to UV-A (3 J/cm2). In case (a), 18 subjects showed no erythema and 2 showed very slight erythema. In case (b), 5 showed slight, 5 moderate and 10 severe erythema.
