Scrap appliances (S), for example electronic and electrical apparatus, components, cables etc. are alternately comminuted mechanically (1, 3), magnetically separated (2) and mechanically and physically separated (5, 10-12), for example by means of electrostatic separators, in stages. The dust produced during comminution is pneumatically collected and filtered off (22, 9). The nonmetallic fraction (8), and the magnetic (B) and the nonmagnetic fraction (C) each take the form of granules and dust. The metal fractions (B, C) are suitable for pyrolysis-free, wet-chemical and/or electrolytic further separation. The nonmetallic fraction is suitable dumping.
