The intermediate gear (10) in the transmission has toothings (11,13) with different reference diameters. The toothings extend at least over the part sections (33) of the gear circumference. One toothing meshes with the drive gear (8), the other toothing meshes with the take-off member (14). Toothings, drive gear, and toothing (15) of the take-off member form transmission stages (12,16). These have radially outward extending central axis, which halve the axial extension of the toothings. The axis are located in a common plane. The toothings are formed as external toothings. USE/ADVANTAGE - Mixture-compressing IC engine with external ignition. Shortened axial distance between toothing and bearing results in smaller load on bearing.
