Magnetic tape cassettes are stacked in magazines within a box shaped housing. Several magazines stalks are accessed by a handling unit that can move vertically and horizontally to make a selection. Selections are made using a keyboard (21) with information being given on a screen (17). Cassettes are delivered through a slot in the front panel (25). Access to the system is dependent upon the insertion and identification of a data card inserted into a reader (11) for checking. The user's name and cassette selection details are recorded.
