The switch has at least one contact module incorporating part of the electrical circuit for opening and closing the contacts, a drive module with an electromagnetically operated armature for operating the contact module and a coupling device between the contact and drive modules. The drive module comprises a sealed basic module without any fixed and/or movable contacts, its housing (3) having a mounting surface which can be fitted with one or more identical or differing contact modules (5, 10). Pref. the drive module is fitted with a main contact module (10) in turn fitted with auxiliary contact modules. ADVANTAGE - Allows use of same base components for wide range of applications, to reduce mfg. cost.
