The measuring device user a fluid medium acted on by a manually applied force to exhibit a deformation or displacement, which is measured via a read-out scale (5). The medium is held in an elastically deformable container coupled to a riser pipe (3) filled with a gas under pressure. The read-out scale is marked vertically along the riser pipe for indicating the applied force. Pref. the riser pipe is open at the top and sealed by a device (4) of sufficient length for compression of the residual air upon its insertion in the riser pipe. ADVANTAGE - Simple, low-cost mfr.
