A method for processing whether a coplanar object intersects a picking volume including the steps of first calculating whether a plane containing the object intersects any edges of the picking volume, subsequently calculating whether the object and the picking volume intersect when the plane of the object is determined to intersect any edges of the picking volume, and providing an indication whether the object intersects the picking volume. In addition, an apparatus is described for implementing the method.
