A high resolution image processing system using low resolution subimages.

An image processing system 1 comprises framestores 3, 4 and a disc store 6 connected via a buffer 11. The stores and the buffer are controlled by a processor 12. Image data representing an image at high resolution is moved between the stores in order to create sets of data representing respective sub images. Each sub image represents the entire image but at a lower resolution. The sub image data is recorded on video tape by a video recorder 17. This enables the sub image data to be transferred to low resolution processing apparatus for processing and/or display of the sub images thereby.
